Our mission

For Petz Group, the company´s ESG initiatives must be aligned with our mission of promoting a healthier relationship between pets and their families, creating value for the business, society and environment. We are a company built by pet lovers, whose objective is to raise adoption numbers and awareness on responsible ownership, while reducing the rate of abandoned animals through projects and initiatives of animal welfare along with our partner institutions throughout Brazil.

Our policy is focused on 2 pillars: Products with a Cause and Animal Welfare, made possible through the AdotePetz program.

Sustainability Report

AdotePetz

 

We have the largest animal welfare initiative in the Brazilian retail market.

Founded in 2007, AdotePetz is a program that aims to facilitate adoptions and strengthen NGOs and independent protectors so that abandoned pets have a chance to find a permanent home full of affection.

The program acts in three pillars: adoption, donations and professionalization.

Adoption

At Petz, we encourage responsible adoption by providing dedicated permanent spaces for abandoned/stray pets in over 200 of our stores. Throughout its history, AdotePetz has already helped more than 66,000 animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs to find their forever home.

Donation

AdotePetz operates in many animal welfare protection projects, with emphasis on Válidos Project and the partnerships with Arredondar and Editora MOL. With the amount raised, the program is responsible for several social projects with different initiatives in more than 15 Brazilian states, such as supporting homeless people and veterinary assistance to their pets, population control through the neutering of abandoned animals and the donation of photovoltaic panels to NGOs.

Partnership with Editora Mol

We count on the partnership with the Mol Publisher on our “Products with Cause” pillar, by offering products (such as calendars, books, sticker albums and toys) in our stores and e-commerce platforms.

With a total of 15 projects launched so far, our best seller is “Ache o Bicho”, which is currently in its 4th edition and has sold more than half million units. In total, since 2017, more than 3 million products have been sold.

All profits raised are destined to animal protection initiatives that Petz is part of – among them, a network of partner NGOs whose purpose is to promote animal welfare.

Partnership with Arredondar

Arredondar is a project that takes place in our physical stores in which, at the end of the purchase, the consumer has the opportunity to round up and donate the amount of change in cents to AdotePetz partner NGOs.

Válidos Project

Válidos is a project based on donating products close to the expiration date to AdotePetz´s NGOs network. Since 2020, more than 123,000 products were donated, equivalent to R$4.5 million, providing food for rescued pets in more than 20 Brazilian states.

Professionalization

Adote Petz, in partnership with Phomenta, has been training and certifying several animal protection NGOs since 2021, resulting in more prepared and qualified organizations acting for the adoption of abandoned dogs and cats in Brazil. Through this partnership, it is possible to bring education to NGOs, increasing the impact of their work.

Phomenta is a member of ICFO (International Committee on Fundraising Organizations) and certifies NGOs that have good governance and transparency practices, bringing visibility and reliability to the network of partners and social investors.

 

In total, our projects and partnerships have already raised more than R$15.2 million to the animal welfare initiatives.

Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report

As part of our commitment to promoting more sustainable management of our businesses and with the aim of ensuring the transparency of our environmental impact, we present our first Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report. The report was measured based on the year of 2022 following the GHG Protocol methodology for accounting, calculations and quantification of emissions. Emissions from 218 Petz stores, 3 distribution centers, fleets and the corporate office were considered, accounting for emission sources in Scope 1, 2 and 3.
